Arno Fletcher is a minor character in the Enemy series. He makes his only appearance in The Hunted.

Appearance[]

Arno is around Ed Carter's age. He is small, skinny, and with long hair

Personality[]

Arno is described as "a born politician"[1]. He acts very friendly and laughs consistently, but he is truly more devious.

History[]

Arno lived in Ascot during the early days of the disaster. Arno interprets for The Mad King, but Ed realizes it is mostly a scam and Arno is truly in charge if Ascot. Arno came up with the idea of the Races to stop the kids nearby from killing each other for limited resources. As the true head of Ascot, this also makes him vicariously in charge of all the other settlements[1].

Synopsis[]

The Hunted (2014)[]

Arno initially appears eating dinner with Ed, sharing the story of the races. As Arno describes, the winner of the Races becomes in charge of all the other groups, almost like an emperor, and is allowed whatever they want. Although Ascot never wins, Arno still sees the races as a success for them because they make a profit. Arno also allows Ed to be the new captain of their team for the Races. As the camps arrive and the band plays music, Arno walks out with The Mad King and Henry to start the events[1].

Arno welcomes everyone to the fifth Ascot Race and "interprets" The Mad King's jumbles for the crowd, insulting them, which all the kids love. After a few races, Arno has to make a ruling on the Big Kahuna event. Golden Girl, who was winning, had her horse spooked by a sicko that wandered on the track, and demanded a review. Arno declares the sickos a natural hazard on the field and rules Ascot the winners of the event, before announcing the King's Road[2].

During the Royal Tournament, Arno watches as Malik Hussein, who most assumed was a sicko, causes a ruckus of the event and is able to knock several fighters, including Golden Boy, from their horses, leaving only Henry remaining. Despite being entertained by the spectacle, he demands Henry kill Malik, but the former refuses. Ella Brewer, who had made her way to him, tells Arno that Malik is not a sicko, but he dismisses her. Ed tries to get the kids to stop from attempting to kill Malik, angering Arno. Arno is further angered when Malik is declared the winner of the event, and therefore the winner of the Races[3].

Arno calls in all the camp leaders to a meeting. Before he enters, he pulls Ed aside. He allows the victory of Ascot due to the weird situation, but tells Ed that the Races are important, and, due to Malik's appearance, kids are starting to get upset like they had done before the Races. Arno explains he had rules, with the most important one being that Ascot could never win, or else they might be accused of fixing the entire game. He allows Ed the opportunity to say his piece, but has lost his trust in him. Ed tells the leaders, including Josa, Kenton, the Golden Twins, and Dara, that his wish is for all the camps to join him in returning to London to fight the remaining sickos. All, expect Maidenhead, agree to follow him[4].

It is uncertain if Arno joined Sophie and the archers from Ascot in heading towards London.
