Courtney is a supporting character in the Enemy series, first cameoing in The Enemy and becoming a main character in The Dead and The Fear. She was the best friend of Brooke and Aleisha, and made it with Ed Carter and Jordan Hordern's crew to the Tower of London after the Battle of Lambeth Bridge.

Over a year later, Courtney joined DogNut and his crew to find Brooke and bring her back to the Tower of London. Though Courtney was able to reunite with her friend, Courtney was killed during a confrontation with a group of sickos called the Gym Bunnies.

Appearance

Courtney was described as a girl who wore too much make-up, too much perfume, and had big hair. In The Dead, she was wearing dirty, tattered, brightly-colored clothes "that must have once been fashionable"; along with broken accessories and ripped tights. Like her friends, Courtney wore an overwhelming amount of perfume at that time, likely to cover up that she hadn't showered in weeks. Her hair was also scraped back.[1]

Courtney was larger than Brooke and Aleisha, being "not exactly fat, but not thin either".[1] Her weight was a subject of teasing by Brooke and Aleisha, who would poke fun at her for being fat.

Personality

Courtney was described as being rather grumpy, consistently interrupting Aleisha's attempts to tell their story to say that whatever town their bus visited was a dump.

In the year that passed after the disaster began, Courtney gained a reputation as a fierce fighter, one that nobody would mess with if they knew what was good for them.

History

Courtney lived in Willesden and attended the same school as her best friends Aleisha and Brooke. At Courtney's tenth birthday party, Brooke ate too much chocolate and puked all over the cake and Courtney's mother.[2]

When the outbreak began, Courtney was on a school trip to Bilbao, Spain. When people started getting sick, the teachers decided to try and drive to Calais to get the ferry back to England. Upon reaching Calais, they discovered that no ferries were running due to the outbreak Eventually, the British government organised for a single boat to pick up the British citizens who were stuck on the continent, and Courtney's group was only able to get on the ferry because it was full of children.

Once back in England, the bus driver got sick in Ashford, and more kids decided to split from the main group. After that, the last remaining teacher, Mr. Betts, drove the countryside before becoming sick himself. With the coach stuck in the countryside, and nobody able to drive it, sickos soon surrounded it to try and get at the kids inside. Greg Thorne and his son Liam found the coach one evening under siege by grown-ups, and Greg killed them before taking charge. In the morning, Greg began driving northwest towards London. That day, Greg picked up Zohra and Froggie before reaching the town of Rowhurst.[1] At that point, Courtney, Aleisha, and Brooke were the only three kids left on the coach, as the rest of their classmates had either been killed or had split off in Calais and Ashford. The trio sat at the back of the coach, behind the food supplies.

Trivia

  • Though Courtney technically appears in The Enemy, her identity and name are not mentioned, so it is assumed that she is an unimportant character.
  • Kwanele Nkosi described Courtney and her friends as "an unholy mix of Topshop, Juicy Couture, JD Sports, Accessorize, and Willesden market".[3]
